Wildlife Viewing

Wildlife viewing abounds on all of our trips and packages! And while we can’t guarantee you’ll see any specific species, all of our knowledge and experience does guarantee that you’ll have tons of opportunities to spot wildlife on your trip with us. Our guides, boat captains and drivers are experts at keeping an eye out for wildlife, know special places to look, and have flexibility to pause for an amazing encounter when it presents itself!

In the Chugach National Forest and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and surrounding areas, we see bald eagles, moose, brown and black bears (although black bear sightings are more common in this area), lynx, swans, and many other bird species. Often we see these animals near the edge of the Kenai River from a raft or boat where they’re getting a snack or some water! Our Kenai Riverside Lodge and Kenai Backcountry Lodge are situated in these diverse wildlife areas.

Kenai Fjords National Park, home to Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge, is home to many marine wildlife and bird species. Our Kenai Fjords Day Cruise (which doubles as the mode of transportation to/from the Glacier Lodge) is the perfect activity to spot these animals, as we spend ample time on the water inside the boundary of the Park. Seek out whales, orcas, Steller sea lions, Dall’s porpoises, sea otters, puffins and more!

Many visitors travel to Denali National Park to seek out “the big five:” grizzly bears, moose, Dall sheep, wolves and caribou. Golden eagles also call the Park area home and are magnificent to see. These species often are seen along the park road and surrounding areas.
