The Alaska 11-Day Grand Adventure, our most comprehensive adventure, features stays at all three of Alaska Wildland Adventures’ deluxe wilderness lodges on the Kenai Peninsula, showing travelers the full beauty of riverside, backcountry and seacoast Alaska. This trip also includes exploration of Denali National Park – with opportunities to view the stunning Alaska Range and Denali – followed by a relaxing journey back to Anchorage aboard the first-class Alaska Railroad Goldstar cars.
This adventure starts with a drive along beautiful Turnagain Arm and through the Chugach Mountains en route to the picturesque port town of Seward situated at the head of Resurrection Bay. After a day exploring Seward, board our private vessel to Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge for a three-night stay in Kenai Fjords National Park. The marine wildlife and glacier cruise provides a first encounter with the magnificent glaciers and marine wildlife of the national park.
Once you arrive at the lodge, activity choices abound! This include opportunities to sea kayak amid glacial ice near Aialik Glacier, canoeing in Pedersen Lagoon, and beachcombing along Aialik Bay. Interpretive nature walks and hiking from the lodge are also options. If you’re seeking a relaxing day, spend time by the wood stove in the main lodge, peruse the natural history library, visit the wood-fired sauna or leisurely stroll the beachfront.
Next we travel to Kenai Riverside Lodge, directly on the banks of the Kenai River. We’ll enjoy some relaxation time on the expansive riverside deck in the evening, in preparation of our rafting adventure ahead!
A full-day rafting exploration of the Kenai River is our transportation to remote Kenai Backcountry Lodge. We’ll spend two days at this remote, boat-in-only paradise on the shores of glacier-carved Skilak Lake. Hike to expansive mountain and lake views during the day, and enjoy a visit to the wood-fired sauna in the evening.
Finally, you’ll journey north to Talkeetna, a quaint mountain town that serves as basecamp for those looking to summit North America’s highest peak, Denali. Spend days two days enjoying the Denali area by way of interpretive hikes and sightseeing bus exploration, looking for wildlife along the way, before returning back to Anchorage aboard the Alaska Railroad in their first-class Goldstar cars.
