Arctic Ocean Adventure

A Journey by Land and Air to Alaska’s Arctic Circle

Travel to the shores of the Arctic Ocean along the rugged and extremely remote Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay. You will make several crossings along the way: the Yukon River, the Arctic Circle, and the Brooks Range (the northernmost extension of the Rocky Mountains). There are many opportunities for wildlife sightings including grizzly bears, caribou and the unique musk ox. Arrive at the Arctic Ocean, and tour the start of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

Prices are in U.S. dollars, per person, double occupancy. Trip price includes guided ground tour, overnight accommodations, air transportation from Prudhoe Bay to Fairbanks, and snacks/beverages. Trip price does not include meals (average cost per meal is $15-$20), beer, wine, liquor, or gratuities to staff.

Southbound and Southbound with Utqiaqvik Extension are also available; ask about departure dates.

Day 1

Depart Fairbanks at approximately 8:30 a.m. Enjoy a ground tour north in the personalized comfort of tour vans. Visit the Arctic Circle Trading Post situated in the rural community of Joy, Alaska. Travel on the rugged Dalton Highway made famous during construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the Yukon River, the northland’s most famous waterway, and learn of the river’s storied past. Cross over the Arctic Circle in ceremonious fashion and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. Overnight at rustic Coldfoot nestled in the Brooks Range.

Day 2

Pass through majestic Brooks Range and cross over the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass. Explore the amazing arctic tundra of the Arctic Coastal Plain up close, and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface. Overnight at Prudhoe Bay.

Day 3

Complete the journey by dipping your toe in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay. Fly back to Fairbanks, arriving between 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm (flight times and types of planes can vary).

Get a firsthand glimpse of the lifestyle of Alaska’s Arctic Coastal people with a tour of the village. Walk the shores of the Arctic Ocean near the northernmost point in North America.
