Bear Viewing at Brooks Falls

Unbeatable brown bear viewing with Bristol Adventures

Every summer, millions of salmon travel from the Bering Sea back to their homes in the lakes and streams of Katmai National Park. These fish provide a bountiful food source for the world’s largest population of grizzly (brown) bears.

The famed bear viewing at Brooks Falls is only a short walk from Bristol Adventures’ Brooks Lodge. This area boasts the largest population of brown bears in the world, and the bears can often be viewed fishing along the mile and a half long Brooks River during the peak of the salmon season. Many visitors see bears within minutes of arrival from the safety of viewing platforms. During this unguided adventure, National Park Service staff will provide a safety briefing and details on how to enjoy your experience in “Bear Country.”

In addition to the amazing bear viewing, this day trip to Katmai National Park includes a series of scenic flights from Anchorage to Brooks Lodge, including travel in a pressurized propjet aircraft and a short flight by floatplane to reach the bear viewing area. On clear days, beautiful mountain views can be seen en route.
