While an all-inclusive guided adventure or a lodge package includes many opportunities for active exploration of wild Alaska, our trips also offer opportunities for more leisurely activities, including reading one of the natural history books in the lodge library, playing a board game with a traveling companion or a new friend, and relaxing in a wood-fired sauna. One of our favorite ways to leisurely explore is beachcombing on Aialik Bay in Kenai Fjords National Park.
Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge is our remote, boat-in-only lodge in Kenai Fjords National Park. Our custom landing craft, the M/V Wild Lander, takes guests from the small seacoast town of Seward, Alaska, to the rocky beach on the west side of Aialik Bay. The design of the boat allows for access to the lodge without the need for a traditional harbor. The lodge itself is located a short distance from Aialik Bay on the east side of Pedersen Lagoon.
Through a series of boardwalks and low-impact trails, guests at the lodge have the option of exploring the forests surrounding the lodge, all with a guide who will discuss the variety of habitats and animals that call the area home, and continuing out to the shore of Aialik Bay, which extends north to Aialik Glacier from the Pacific Ocean.
The beach is a perfect place to enjoy the views as the ocean waves lap against the shore: to the east is the other side of the Bay with dramatic mountains extending up from the water, and to the north is majestic Aialik Glacier. Along the beach, seek out shells and rocks, check out interesting seaweed and sea plants that have washed ashore, explore the shapes and textures of driftwood, and keep your eyes out for the whales, orcas, otters and sea birds that call this area home.
