The lodge is closed up, the waders are hung to dry, and the fish have all been shipped home (and perhaps have already been eaten). It’s official. The season has ended. It’s during this time that we often like to look back at the summer and reminisce. Remember coming back to the cabin and kicking your feet up after a long day of sockeye fishing this July? Remember waking up that very next morning only to find yourself on the river again, watching the fog lift off the Kenai at about 4:30 a.m.? But then remember feeling that first tug of the day on your line? Along with these memories, one of our most prized possessions is the feedback we receive from our fishing guests.
Some of this feedback simply makes us blush: “Everyone who works there is so kind and helpful. They work together as a team to make your adventure a lifetime dream come true. They make you feel so special – like you are their only customer. They appear to love their jobs and their happiness at the lodge is contagious!” – Sheri L.
Other responses humble us when asked what the highlight of their trip was: “Getting 3 generations of family together, watching my Mom catch her first fish, watching the guides help my parents (age 82 and 81) in & out the boat, teaching them how to fish, and being patient when they were cold.” – David T.
Finally, others remind us that, as guests and guides, when our alarm goes off at 3:30 in the morning, it’s for the same sole purpose: The “indescribable beauty of Alaska” – Ken C.
