"Activities were well planned with safety factors well considered. The physical activity combined with hands on learning experience was most rewarding. Everyone at AWA, guides and support staff included are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. All of the meals were delicious and creatively prepared. There was always more than enough food and it was quite unexpected to be served, especially with such pleasant attentiveness. Our entire experience was delightful and rewarding. My hope is that AWA will maintain small groups of tourists to prevent the pristine environment from becoming spoiled and overused."

Day 1: Meet your Alaska Wildland Adventures representative at your downtown hotel between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., or at the Anchorage Airport at 3:00 p.m. Shuttle by 15-passenger van along Turnagain Arm to Cooper Landing, home of our Kenai Riverside Lodge. Upon arrival, settle into your cabin, enjoy dinner in the lodge, and discuss your upcoming activity days with our knowledgable staff. Overnight at Kenai Riverside Lodge. (D)

Day 2 (or Day 3 or Day 4): Wake up on Day 2 (or 3 or 4 for longer packages) and explore the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge or Chugach National Forest. (B,L,D)

Choose from:

  • A full day of rafting down the Kenai Canyon and through the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge - watch for moose, salmon, and bald eagles as your guides share the stories behind the sights.

  • Guided hiking on the trails of the Chugach National Forest or Kenai National Wildlife Refuge - learn about the native uses of the numerous plants and flowers you'll see along the way.

  • Relaxing at the Lodge - pour yourself into a rocking chair on our riverside deck and take in the breathtaking Kenai River as you watch for wildlife.

  • A day of guided fishing on the world-famous Kenai River for salmon or trout - whether you're a novice or an avid angler who can't come to Alaska without fishing, you'll have an unforgettable experience with our expert guides (additional cost for guided fishing).

  • Last Day: Bid farewell to the Kenai Riverside Lodge after breakfast and travel by van to Seward. Our AWA representative will drop you off at the Kenai Fjords office where you'll embark on a six-hour marine wildlife and glacier cruise. This is your opportunity to see whales, puffins, glaciers, sea otters, sea lions, and more! Afterward, journey north on the Alaska Railroad from Seward to Anchorage. Relax and take in the spectacular scenery. You'll arrive at the downtown Anchorage depot by 10:15 p.m. Dinner and Anchorage transfers not included. Dinner is available for purchase on the train. (B,L)

Ask us about extending your Alaska Adventure Packages. We can arrange for pre and post trip bear viewing excursions at a rustic fly-in lodge where, in the company of trained guides, you may observe brown (grizzly) bears exploring their natural habitat. We can also arrange a stay at our charming, boat-in-only Kenai Backcountry Lodge or Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge, an exclusive seacoast destination, both situated on the Kenai Peninsula. If you'd like to venture north, ask about adding a Denali Adventure Package to extend your Alaska vacation. Visit our website or call us for details.

Departure: You will arrive at the Anchorage train depot by approximately 10:15 p.m. on the last day of your trip. We recommend you spend this night in Anchorage. If you must fly home this night, we suggest you book a flight that departs after 1:00 a.m. (the next day), in case of possible transportation delays.

Choose from 3 to 5 days or more, depending on options selected. This trip is partially guided with some independent travel.

Note: We do not expect any major changes from this schedule. However, in the spirit of adventure, we allow our itinerary to remain flexible so that we may take advantage of spontaneous events.

Trip Price: Prices are in U.S. dollars, per person, double occupancy, plus tax. For triple and quad, deduct $25 per person per night. For single, add 25% to cost of double.
