Denali Kantishna Explorer Full Itinerary

Day 1: Get an early start this morning and take a taxi to meet your motorcoach bound to Denali National Park. Arrive at the Egan Convention Center located on 5th Avenue between E and F Streets by 6:30 a.m. for check-in. The 237-mile trip north provides scenic byways and, weather permitting, excellent views of Mt. McKinley (Denali) en route to the park.

Arrive at the Denali Rail Depot around noon and board a private bus. Soon after, you're on your way to a memorably narrated wildlife drive inside the park. Your driver will share his or her knowledge about the local wildlife and history of the area. Look for bear, caribou and moose as you venture along the 90 mile park road to the Kantishna region. Arrive at 8:30 p.m. and settle in to your cabin. Dinner and overnight at Denali Backcountry Lodge. (D)

Day 2 (& 3 or more, if you choose): Explore, gold pan, photograph, hike, or bike in the Kantishna region of Denali National Park. Your day(s) can be as active or relaxed as you like. For some, venturing out for a casual stroll on the spongy tundra is a highlight! For others, a full-day trek is a must. Clear days offer stunning views of Mt. McKinley (Denali) and, no matter what the weather, you'll delight in knowing you are far removed from the crowds. In the evenings, enjoy a presentation by one of the resident lodge staff or just relax in your cabin near Moose Creek. Overnight at Denali Backcountry Lodge. (B,L,D)

Last Day: Search for wildlife again on a morning drive back to the park entrance. At the depot, transfer your luggage to the Alaska Railroad. Board the train and sit back and enjoy the ride from Denali to Anchorage. Lunch, dinner, and transfers not included. Meals are available for purchase on the train. (B)

Departure: Arrive at the Anchorage train depot by approximately 8:30 p.m. on the last day of your trip. We recommend you spend this night in Anchorage. If you must fly home this night, we suggest you book a flight that departs after midnight in case of possible transportation delays.

Ask us about extending your stay in Denali or at the park entrance. We can easily delay your Railroad reservation by a day or two so you can stay in or near Denali and enjoy this majestic park on your own schedule. Or venture south to the Kenai Peninsula and add an Alaska Lodge Package or a stay at our boat-in-only Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge, our seacoast lodge located within the boundaries of Kenai Fjords National Park.
