Denali Kantishna Explorer

The key to having a quality Denali experience, from our point of view, is to spend time in the Kantishna region, deep within the wilderness preserve, for at least two nights, and well away from the crowded Denali Park entrance. All transportation from Anchorage, accommodations, and most meals and activities are included in this unguided Alaska adventure package.

Dates Price
  4 days / 3 nights - Adult $1,595.00
4 days / 3 nights - Child $1,495.00
5 days / 4 nights - Adult $1,925.00
5 days / 4 nights - Child $1,795.00

Day 1: Arrive at the Anchorage Museum of History & Art anytime between 12:00 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. The museum is located at 121 West 7th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. Load your luggage into the Park Connection motorcoach, then enjoy exploring the museum. The motorcoach will depart promptly at 3:00 p.m. Sit back and relax as your driver transports you comfortably from Anchorage to Denali National Park. Arrive at the your hotel at the park entrance, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Dine at any of the restaurants in the area. Overnight at the park entrance. (All meals are on your own this day.)

Day 2: Morning on your own to visit the Denali National Park Visitor Access Center, visit the shops and galleries at the park entrance, arrange for a raft trip or flightseeing excursion, or just sleep in. Take a shuttle from the hotel to the Denali train depot at 1:00 p.m. where you will board the private Kantishna Roadhouse bus. Soon after, you'll be on your way to a memorable narrated wildlife drive inside the park. Your driver will share his or her knowledge about the local wildlife and history of the park. Look for bear, caribou, and moose as you wind your way through the 90 miles of park road to Kantishna. Arrive at 8:30 p.m. and settle in to your cabin. Dinner and overnight at Kantishna Roadhouse. (D)

Day 3 (& 4 if you choose): Explore, gold pan, photograph, hike, or bike in the Kantishna region of Denali National Park. Your day(s) can be as active or relaxed as you like. For some, just venturing out for an hour walk on the spongy tundra is a highlight! For others, bagging that peak in the distance is a must. You decide. On clear days, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of Mt. McKinley (Denali), and no matter what the weather, you'll delight in knowing you are far removed from the crowds. In the evenings, enjoy a presentation by one of the resident lodge staff, or just relax in your cabin near Moose Creek. Overnight at Kantishna Roadhouse. (B,L,D)

Last Day: Search for wildlife again on a morning drive back to the park entrance. At the depot, transfer your luggage to the Alaska Railroad. Board the train and sit back and enjoy the ride from Denali to Anchorage. Lunch, dinner, and transfers not included. Meals are available for purchase on the train. (B)

Ask us about extending your stay in Denali or at the park entrance. We can easily delay your Railroad reservation by a day or two so you can stay in or near Denali and enjoy this majestic park on your own schedule. Or venture south to the Kenai Peninsula and add a stay at our boat-in-only Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge, our newest lodge located within the boundaries of Kenai Fjords National Park.

Departure: You will arrive at the Anchorage train depot by approximately 8:30 p.m. on the last day of your trip. We recommend you spend this night in Anchorage. If you must fly home this night, we suggest you book a flight that departs after 11:30 a.m., in case of possible transportation delays.

You might want to continue your Alaska travels by adding the Kenai Explorer to your Denali Kantishna Explorer!
