This afternoon, we'll visit Creamer's Field, an active migratory bird and waterfowl refuge. Photographic opportunities in this important wildlife habitat abound, as do the following bird species: Sandhill Cranes, Pintails, Golden Plovers, Mallards and Canada Geese. From a nature trail or observation point, we'll practice wildlife photography in this protected area. Tonight, share stories (and photos) at a Welcome Dinner, followed by a visit to the famous Alaska Pipeline. Overnight in Fairbanks at the Pike's Waterfront Lodge. (D)

Day 5: This morning, we depart Alaska's largest city bound for spectacular maritime wilderness inside Kenai Fjords National Park. Along the way, enjoy a scenic drive south along the Turnagain Arm, where Dall sheep and Bald Eagles make their homes along the rugged mountainscape. Pass through the Chugach National Forest to the seacoast town of Seward.
For today's adventure, we'll allow the adventurous spirit of the group (and the experience and knowledge of your photography guide) to set the course for our photography outing in nature. Optional outings may include: visit to a wildlife conservation center; hike to the face of a local glacier; or wilderness and wildflower photography in nearby meadows. Spend the day exploring some of our favorite places on the Kenai Peninsula, reaching Seward late afternoon.
Tonight's destination is the Seward Windsong Lodge, located in a spectacular glacier river valley. After dinner, stroll nearby trails or relax in our comfortable accommodations. Overnight Seward Windsong Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 6: This morning, we board a small boat bound for Kenai Fjords National Park - home to an array of glaciers and marine wildlife, like whales, Steller sea lions, sea otters, puffins and more! A four-hour Kenai Fjords cruies allows us ample time to explore the rugged coastlines, seeking out marine wildlife and glaciers. Enjoy lunch in front of a tidewater glacier before arriving at our exclusive lodge destination: Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge.
Nestled in a protected tidal lagoon area, the Glacier Lodge offers miles of pristine beachfront for strolling and views of the stunning Pederson Glacier. |
Note: We do not expect any major changes from this schedule. However in the spirit of adventure, we allow our itinerary to remain flexible so that we may take advantage of spontaneous events.
Trip Cost: Prices are in U.S. dollars, per person, double occupancy, plus tax. For triple and quad, deduct $100. For solo, add 25% to cost of double. Trip cost includes meals as noted, lodging, special programs, private boat charter, all land transportation, best of gear and equipment, porterage, and full guide services by a professional photographer during your entire stay. Trip cost does not include beer, wine or liquor, optional flightseeing tour, or gratuities to staff, and meals as noted.
Gratuities to Staff: First, we firmly believe that a gratuity is not to be "expected," but "deserved." The amount is a matter of personal preference; we offer the following only because we are frequently asked for guidance. Since we are so often asked, we suggest $10-$12 per guest per day as a moderate gratuity guideline. Most guests extend their gratuity to the Trip Leader toward the end of the trip. Please make checks payable to the Trip Leader, not to Alaska Wildland Adventures. Gratuities are shared by all Alaska Wildland Adventures employees who work all or part of the trip.
