Arrival: Plan to arrive in Alaska at least the day before your trip begins and plan to overnight in Anchorage. On the first day of your trip, your Trip Leader will meet you at 9:00 a.m. at the Aspen Hotel Anchorage located at 108 East 8th Avenue in downtown Anchorage. Please see our Answers for Parents page for answers to most family travel related questions.

Day 1: Breakfast on your own, then with your luggage ready to go, meet your Trip Leader and fellow travelers at 9:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Aspen Hotel Anchorage. Enjoy a scenic drive south along Turnagain Arm and through the Chugach National Forest. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, Dall sheep, and beluga whales. In just over 2 hours, you will arrive in the quaint community of Cooper Landing. It is here that we will make our home for the next three nights at our Kenai Riverside Lodge. Upon arrival to the Lodge, we will settle in and begin with an activity to introduce the area. The Kenai Riverside Lodge provides an excellent setting for your family adventure. The beautiful riverside deck, our riverside program lodge, the cozy log cabin village, and proximity to great hiking and other activities make it a great base location (and no time consuming packing and unpacking!). (L,D)

Day 2 (3 & 4): Wake up on Days 2, 3, and 4 and explore the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge or Chugach National Forest. Each of these 3 days features a special theme and activities to support that theme.(B,L,D)

Some of the activities that will occur during these days include:

  • Rafting on the mild and scenic Kenai River into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

  • Learning from your guides how to look for signs of wildlife and to locate nesting bald eagles, moose, and spawning salmon.

  • Hiking on the beautiful trails of the Chugach National Forest, learning about early the explorers who traveled through and settled in the Kenai River Valley.

  • Creating native Alaska crafts.

  • Participating in each day's featured sports program.

  • And don't forget something you really want to do while your kids particiapte in the daily "kids only" activities supervised by our seasoned staff!

  • There's also plenty of free time for you to relax on the massive deck overlooking the Kenai River and take in the awesome beauty that surrounds you!

  • Day 5: Bid farewell to the Kenai Riverside Lodge after breakfast, then travel by road to the seacoast town of Seward. This is the day to see glaciers! You will embark on a spectacular 6-hour small ship Kenai Fjords National Park marine wildlife and glacier cruise. Look for humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, otters, puffins, eagles, and more! Stretch your legs after the boat trip, then enjoy dinner and a private "sleepover" at the Alaska SeaLife Center. (Parents may opt to overnight at nearby hotel instead.) (B,L,D)

Day 6: Morning in Seward. Travel from Seward to Anchorage on the final leg of your journey in the Last Frontier. We will arrive in Anchorage in time for a farewell group lunch at the Sourdough Mining Company. Share stories, exchange addresses, and start making plans for your return trip to Alaska! Drop offs at Anchorage Airport or Anchorage hotels by 2:00 p.m. (B,L)

Departure: Transportation to Anchorage Airport or Anchorage hotels by 2:00 p.m. on the last day of the trip will be provided. From there, you may choose to continue your travels in Alaska or return home. Ask about adding the Denali Kantishna Explorer to your Alaska Family Camp!
